Certified Angus Beef® Brand Summer Grilling #SundaySupper…Featuring Chile-Rubbed Strip Steaks with Chunky Tomato-Avocado Salsa #GrillTalk

Today, #SundaySupper is celebrating Father’s Day with a full menu of fantastic Certified Angus Beef® Brand recipes! Our challenge is to create dishes that showcase delicious Certified Angus Beef® Brand steaks. My Native Texan Daddy loves a good steak, so I used Certified Angus Beef® Brand NY Strip Steaks to create an extra-special recipe for our family's Father’s Day celebration today. My Chile-Rubbed Strip Steaks with Chunky Tomato-Avocado Salsa feature lots of his favorite flavors in one amazing dish! Certified Angus Beef® Brand strip steaks are rubbed with a robust chile spice rub, then grilled to juicy perfection. Just before serving, they’re topped with a chunky salsa that features juicy Summer tomatoes and creamy avocado.

The Certified Angus Beef® Brand was founded by a group of Angus cattlemen in 1978. Angus is a breed of cattle that offers superb marbling and flavor. The Certified Angus Beef® brand has ten different specification requirements that are designed to ensure its marbling, tenderness, and consistency. Wait until you see the Certified Angus Beef® Brand Chile-Rubbed Strip Steaks with Chunky Tomato-Avocado Salsa that’s on my Father’s Day menu this weekend!

Chile-Rubbed Strip Steaks 
with Chunky Tomato-Avocado Salsa

Ingredients (serves 4 people):
  • Four Certified Angus Beef® Brand New York Strip Steaks
  • Sea salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tsp. canola oil
For the spice rub:
  • 2 tbs. chili powder
  • 1 tbs. onion powder
  • 1 tbs. garlic powder
  • 1 tbs. dried cilantro
  • 1 tbs. cumin
  • 1 tsp. coriander
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
For the salsa:
  • 1 large Haas avocado, peeled and coarsely chopped
  • 1.5 cups chopped tomato
  • 1/3 cup chopped purple onion
  • 1/2 cup frozen corn kernels, thawed
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced or grated
  • Juice of one lime
Instructions:
Step 1: Approximately 30 minutes before you’re ready to grill your steaks, remove them from the fridge. Rub each with a bit of the canola oil, then sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper on both sides. Let the oiled and salted steaks rest at room temperature; this helps ensure even cooking. Combine the spice rub ingredients in a small bowl, and generously rub both sides of the steaks with the spice mixture.
Step 2: Prepare your grill and heat until the temperature is high. To test, carefully place your hand 1” from the grate – if you can only hold it there a second or two, that’s perfect! Place the steaks on the grill. For medium rare steak, cook over high heat for 4 minutes per side. We prefer our steaks medium, so we cooked them for 5 minutes per side. Love those pretty sear marks!
Step 3: Remove the steaks from the grill and place them on a serving platter. It’s tempting to grab a knife and start cutting…but don’t! Be patient, and let the steaks rest for 5-10 minutes to ensure all those flavorful juices are absorbed back into the meat.
 Step 4: To serve, place a strip steak on each plate. Top with a generous amount of the chunky salsa. I served the steaks with tortillas and sour cream on the side in case anyone wanted to slice their steaks for impromptu tacos. Mexican rice and a corn on the cob are good side dishes too.
This strip steak is an explosion of flavors that any father would love to have for Father’s Day…or any day! The Certified Angus Beef® Brand strip steaks were amazingly tender and juicy, with a nice smokiness from the charcoal grill.
