Throw Something on the Barbie #SundaySupper...Featuring Grilled Avocado with Confetti Shrimp Salad

This week, the #SundaySupper theme is Throw Something on the Barbie. Our hostess is Sue from Palatable Pastime, and she asked us to share our favorite grilling recipes! The weather is turning warmer, so it's time to fire up the grill and get ready for al fresco dining. My recipe this week can be made on your outdoor grille -- or inside using a cast-iron grill pan. My Grilled Avocado with Confetti Shrimp Salad is very refreshing, and it makes a perfect first course for dinner -- or a delicious light lunch. The flavorful salad can be made up to a day ahead, and the avocado halves grill up in about 5 minutes. This dish is perfect for avocado lovers! I like to serve crispy tortilla chips on the side for a bit of crunch.

San Antonio's Culinaria Festival Is Coming Up this Weekend!!

One of San Antonio's most highly anticipated culinary events is coming this weekend! The annual Culinaria Festival will be held from May 19-22. Festival Week is Culinaria’s popular food and wine festival, which features multiple events over the course of four amazing days! With everything from food trucks to gourmet cuisine...and beer to champagne, Festival Week truly offers something for every food lover! The 2016 event lineup features a wide range of fun activities. Whether you want to go casual and feast on tacos, burgers, and BBQ...or dress up for the glamorous Grand Tasting event...the Culinaria Festival has the perfect event for you! Culinaria event tickets can be purchased online at EventbriteTickets are on available on a limited basis, and additional tickets will not be added once an event sells out. Proper identification is needed for check-in at the events; individuals who don’t have identification will not be permitted to consume alcoholic beverages per Texas State Law. Keep in mind that Culinaria events go on rain or shine!

Pre-sale tickets end at midnight the night before the event, and the door price will apply to tickets purchased after the ticket cut off. All ticket purchases are non-refundable. During the day, we will be attending the festive Tacos and Talk (and Tasting). This fun event will feature tacos, queso fountains, and salsa bars for spicy-good fun. Add in a range of informative wine and mixology seminars, and you have a full-fledged fiesta on your hands! Later that evening, we'll be attending The Grand Tasting (Re-imagined). This picture gives you an idea of the imaginative food presentations that will be seen at this amazing event.
The Grand Tasting will feature culinary creations from some of San Antonio's best chefs, along with wine and spirit tastings. This limited-access party gives attendees the opportunity to personally engage with local chefs and sample their signature culinary creations. Dancing, music, and entertainment will also be offered -- making it a perfect date night! I hope to see some of my fellow San Antonio and Austin food lovers at these events. The Weekend Gourmet Hits the Road...To Boston AND New York! #WGTravel #EastCoast2016

The Weekend Gourmet is about to head out on an early Summer foodie adventure! This time, we're trying something new! We're combining TWO of our favorite cites in one amazing East Coast trip. We leave tomorrow morning for three nights in Boston. The plan is eat our weight in seafood -- can you say chowder and lobster rolls?!?!? We also plan to enjoy some cooler temperatures before we dive head-first into 90-degree Texas Summer days. We'll see some fun sights and attend a performance of the Boston Pops. To wrap up the Boston leg of our trip, we're going to watch our Houston Astros play the Red Sox at historic Fenway Park! We love going to road games and checking out other ballparks, and Fenway has been near the top of our list for years.
Then, we're renting a car and driving 3.5 hours to New York for another three nights. Along the way, we're going to take a short detour to sample some of the best lobster rolls in New England in Connecticut. While we're in New York, we're catching performances of the New York Philharmonic and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. We're also checking out SNL: The Exhibit...we're big fans of the show, so we're really looking forward to that.
Of course, we'll also enjoy some of the best food that New York has to offer! We'll enjoy favorites like Doughnut Plant tres leche doughnuts and chai latte, Levain Bakery's amazing chocolate chip cookies, Lombardi's coal-fire pizza, and the divine biscuit French toast at Jacob's Pickles. We'll also be trying out some fun new foodie places too! The Weekend Gourmet Dines out for May...Featuring hopdoddy Burger Bar San Antonio #WGDinesOut

For this month's edition of The Weekend Gourmet Dines Out, I'm sharing our recent visit to San Antonio's new location of perennial Austin favorite hopdoddy Burger Bar! This popular Austin-based burger restaurant recently opened at The Rim shopping area in San Antonio -- to much fanfare and excitement. We were so excited when hopdoddy invited Michael and I to come for dinner opening night, and we had a blast! Gourmet burgers, cocktails, and a fun atmosphere you say?!?!? Sign us up! It was stormy when we arrived, but we were quickly seated in the packed restaurant and brought menus to look over. While we decided which burgers to order, we started with an appetizer and cocktails. The signature cocktail of the San Antonio location is the aptly named Alamocitea -- which contained house-made Limoncello, Texas-made Deep Eddy Sweet Tea vodka, raspberry puree, and fresh-squeezed lemon. This gorgeous pink-red cocktail was so good -- sweetly tart like a grown-up version of lemonade. It's the perfect Summer cocktail!
We paired our cocktails with hopdoddy's amazing Green Chile Queso, which is paired with crispy house-made fries for dipping. The amazing fries were a creative spin on traditional tortilla chips. Our meal was off to a tasty start...and then our burgers arrived! I opted for the Magic Shroom Burger, which features a juicy Angus patty, Texas goat cheese, field mushrooms, basil pesto, mayo, lettuce, onion, and tomato. It was DELICIOUS! The beefy patty was expertly cooked, and the combination of earth mushrooms and the herbal basil pesto was out of this world!
We paired this burger with Parmesan Truffle Fries, which came with a decadent truffle aioli for dipping. If you're a truffle lover, these fries are a definite must! The potatoes for the fries are cut and sliced in house, and these are some of the best restaurant french fries we've ever had. We also shared a Sangrita cocktail with this burger. If you love sangria and margaritas, this is the cocktail for you! It contains gold tequila, fresh-squeezed orange and lime juice, and pomegranate grenadine...and it comes with a chile salt rim. This orange-red hued cocktail packs a delicious...and potent...punch.

Mom's Favorite Recipes #SundaySupper...Featuring Rocky Road Brownie Sundae for Mom

This week, our #SundaySupper theme is Mom's Favorite Recipes. This event is being co-hosted by Christie Campbell of A Kitchen Hoor’s Adventures and Wendy Leep Hammond of Wholistic Woman. Ahead of Mother's Day next week, they asked us to share one of our Mom's signature recipes...or a recipe that Mom would love! My Mom truly loves chocolate, so I decided to create a recipe just for her that combines some of her favorite flavors. My Rocky Road Brownie Sundae for Mom is full of chocolate goodness, creamy ice cream, pecans, and marshmallows. It's gooey fun -- and I can't wait to make one of these decadent little sundaes for her when I go home to visit next weekend!!
