Astro-Nomic Nacho Hot Dogs
adapted from Hebrew National
Ingredients (makes 6 hot dogs):
- 1 package Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Beef Franks
- 6 whole wheat hot dog buns
- 48 bite-size mini tortilla chips
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar-Jack cheese
- 2 medium avocados
- 1/2 cup pico de gallo (store-bought or homemade)
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup fat free plain Greek yogurt
- Juice of one lime
Directions:
Step 1: Make the quick guacamole topping. Add the avocado and pico de gallo to a small bowl and combine -- I like to leave the avocado a little bit chunky for texture. Taste and add salt & pepper to taste. Cover and store in the fridge until you're ready to top the hot dogs.
Step 2: Preheat oven to 375℉. Place the hot dog buns on a baking sheet. Line each side of the bun with four mini tortilla chips -- eight total per hot dog. Add 1/3 cup of the cheese into the buns, near the tortilla chips. Place one Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Beef Frank to each bun.
Step 3: Bake for 5-7 minutes. The cheese should be melted, the hot dogs warm, and the buns slightly toasted. While the hot dogs are in the oven, make the crema drizzle by combining the Greek yogurt and lime juice in a small bowl. To serve, top each hot dog with an equal amount of the avocado-pico topping. Drizzle with a bit of the lime crema and serve.
These fun hot dogs are so GOOD! Every bite combines the crunch and cheesiness of nachos with the savory, juicy flavor of a game day hot dog! The lightly spiced avocado-pico topping and lime crema are delicious condiments that bridge both flavors perfectly. This is a fun dish for any World Series watch parties you have planned. Even better? They're ready to eat in less than 30 minutes! I served these hot dogs with crispy oven fries...but chips and queso would also be perfect on the side.
