Tutorial: Assembling a Super Bowl Taco Bar with Ortega® #superbowleats #tacobar #ortega

The Super Bowl is coming up this Sunday. That means great football...fun commercials...and lots of amazing FOOD!! Today, I'm going to show you step-by-step how to create a fun and tasty Super Bowl Taco Bar featuring delicious Ortega® taco products. I use their taco shells, Taco Skillet Sauce, refried beans, taco sauce, and robust Flavor Craver sauces for my taco fixings. Then, I use a fun football field serving platter I found a couple of years ago at my local dollar store as the taco bar's centerpiece. I'll show you just how easy it is to create this simple football-themed display.
As this video shows, assembling my taco bar is a total snap! My football field tray had sections to hold shredded cheese, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Sour cream and the trio of taco sauces are spooned into four smaller sections in the tray's "end zones." The end result is a display with great eye appeal...and taste!

Now...I'll show you the step-by-step process to cook and set up your own Super Bowl Taco Bar. I promise it's simple...and it takes less than an hour.

Super Bowl Taco Bar
Featuring Ortega® Products
Ingredients (16 crunchy beef & 6 soft chicken tacos):
  • 8 Ortega® Great Grains Blue Corn Taco Shells
  • Ortega® Great Grains Yellow Corn & Red Bell Pepper Taco Shells
  • 1 pouch Ortega® Taco Skillet Sauce
  • 1 can Ortega® Refried Beans
  • 1 bottle Ortega® Mild Taco Sauce
  • 1 bottle Ortega® Flavor Craver Taco Ranch
  • 1 bottle Ortega® Flavor Craver Jalapeno Lime
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup pico de gallo
  • 1 cup guacamole
  • 1.5 lbs. lean ground beef
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt + 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 20 scoop tortilla chips
  • 1.5 + .5 cups shredded Colby-Jack cheese
  • 1 lb. boneless chicken breast
  • 1 tbs. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. cumin + 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 8 flour tortillas
Step 1: Cook the beef taco filling. Add the ground beef, garlic salt, and pepper to a large skillet and brown over med-high heat. Drain off fat and add the pouch of Taco Skillet Sauce. Stir to combine, reduce heat to med-low, and simmer for 10 minutes. Turn heat to low to keep the meat warm while you assemble the rest of the taco bar.
Next, Heat the olive oil in a second non-stick skillet over med-high heat. Sprinkle the chicken breast with the cumin and garlic salt. Sear on both sides, then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook until the chicken is cooked through -- about 10 minutes.

Step 2: Fill three long containers in the center of the football tray with the pico de gallo, 1 cup of the shredded cheese, and guacamole. Place the sour cream and trio of sauces into four smaller containers of equal size...two in each end zone. If you have some miniature football players on hand -- thanks, Dad! -- place them on the sidelines.
Step 3: Place the crunchy tortilla shells on a baking sheet and heat according to package directions. While the shells crisp up, carefully spoon warm refried beans into the scoop tortilla chips. Top each with the remaining half-cup of shredded cheese. Arrange these nacho bites along the end zones -- or wherever they fit best on the football field platter you're using. Have fun and be original!
Step 4: Place the football field serving dish on top of a green table cloth. Arrange the warmed taco shells, beef taco filling, and a platter with sliced grilled chicken and flour tortillas around the football field. Then? It's time for everyone to assemble their taco creations!

I made a deluxe crispy blue corn taco with beef, guac, sour cream, pico, cheese, and a drizzle of creamy jalapeno-lime taco sauce. The taco shells were crispy...and they held together nicely. I HATE it when a taco shell falls apart as soon as you take a bite!
The key to this Super Bowl Taco Bar is to have F-U-N!! Your football field serving dish will likely look different from mine...but no worries! Simply arrange the taco components in a way that makes sense for your specific "football field." Cheering for the 49ers or Chiefs? Incorporate their team colors into your table decor! Football-themed beverage glasses, napkins, and plates will make the Super Bowl theme even more festive. Bottom line: let your creativity flow...and your taco bar creation is sure to be a hit!

I've had SO MUCH fun sharing game day food features with you during the football season. This Ortega® Super Bowl Taco Bar is definitely a showstopping finale to the season! I had an absolute BLAST sharing big-flavor appetizers, burgers...and even a few meatless options...over the course of this season. I hope you've had as much fun as I have!

Disclosure: Ortega® provided me with a selection of items from their taco product line to facilitate this feature. All opinions shared are solely my own.
