Spring and Summer are key travel times...we just returned from a weeklong visit to Atlanta and Savannah. We're seasoned travelers, but I realize not everyone is. If you're a newbie to travel -- especially international travel -- today's story is just for you! The Weekend Gourmet correspondent is sharing some great tips that will help any newbie traveler. When you first leave the country to travel, you might not know what to expect. If you feel this way, you need to do everything you can to compensate for the fact that you're not prepared at all. If you want to help yourself, take a look below.
Don’t Be Scared
Fear is a very powerful deterrent. Going into the unknown can be a very scary experience! However, at the end of the day, you aren't the first person to travel the world. You aren’t discovering new territory -- or even a new continent! There are people out there who can help you along the way...not to mention that you're as capable as anyone else out there. Don’t Solely Live by Your Travel Guidebooks
Guidebooks are very useful if you want a general overview of your vacation destination. However, you probably won’t be able to find everything there is to do inside one book. You may end up missing out on some fantastic destinations if you solely depend on a travel guidebook -- which is the last thing that you want! If you want to have the best time, then connect with locals for advice. You should also ask the staff at your hotel for their recommendations. If you're able to take these extra steps, you'll soon discover way more attractions, restaurants, and sites to visit. This will result in you having the best vacation possible!
Take Your Time
It can be very tempting to try to see everything there is to see during your vacation. However, if you have limited vacation time, you really shouldn’t try to "do it all." Rushing through a ton of attractions and sights in a very short amount of time won’t give you the best experience -- and you may even find that you end up becoming overly stressed. Instead, focus on visiting one or two attractions per day...and really take your time to fully experience them. To make transportation easier between vacation sites, consider hiring an executive bus rental service. Doing so will allow you to take the stress out of travel as well.
Get Contact Information
You will probably meet a lot of new friends when you're on the road. Some of them may actually become lifelong friends! If you don’t get their contact information, then you might miss out on some really great connections. If you want to avoid this, ask for contact information for the friends you meet during your travels. Doing so will allow you to make deep connections you can benefit from even when you're at home. Making friends abroad is a great way for you to really boost your confidence. Further, you'd be surprised how much these connections can help you have an even better time on your next trip -- because you can forge new connections with more people!
