Growing up on the Texas Gulf coast, my love of seafood is rooted in my childhood. Today, fish and shellfish are among my favorite foods to cook...and eat! What's not to love? Seafood tastes great, cooks quickly, and is very healthy. As part of my #Healthy2020 series, The Weekend Gourmet correspondent is sharing some of seafood's primary health benefits. Some people love seafood -- including yours truly -- more than anything...while others seem to struggle to eat it. No matter where you fall on this "seafood spectrum," seafood is one of the most beautifully diverse foods -- seafood offers so much that's worth looking into. In truth, there aren't many people who don’t like any seafood -- especially when you consider seafood includes all the fish and shellfish. If you're looking to add more seafood to your diet, you might be keen to learn more about the major benefits of eating seafood. Fight Off Depression
Many of us experience depression throughout our lives, and its' important to know what you can do to ensure depression doesn't overtake you. One of the primary things actions you can take is to eat more oily fish. This kind of fish has a lot of Omega-3 in it, which provides a wide array of health benefits. Omega-3 is a healthy fat that's good to have stored up, and it's also a great mood-enhancer and brain food. Studies have shown that eating more fish is enough to considerably alleviate depression, so it's definitely something you should consider. Heart Health
As well as improving your mood, fish has also been shown to dramatically improve heart health. People who eat fish at least once a week are much less likely to get heart disease and related problems later in life. If you're starting to feel sluggish, it could mean you need to start eating better to get more nutrients. Eating more seafood of any kind is a key way to make this happen. Improve Eyesight
A lot of the seafood health benefits we're discussing here relate to Omega-3. That's especially true of improved eyesight/vision. Research has consistently shown that eating seafood improves a person’s eyesight considerably -- much more than carrots. If you're concerned about your vision, you might want to consider eating more seafood. Improving your eyesight may become more important in the years to come, but you can definitely start looking after it now.

Weight Loss
Many people find it a lot easier to lose weight if they're eating a moderate amount of seafood as part of their diet. Much of the minerals and nutrients in seafood are especially good for losing weight. In fact, you'll likely find you can succeed on your weight loss plan much quicker by simply having one or two seafood meals weekly.
