Don’t Own a Pair of Sunglasses? Here’s Why You Should Be Wearing Them More Often! #Healthy2020 #eyehealth #

As a recent convert to wearing sunglasses, I can personally vouch that wearing them daily protects your vision and overall eye health. In the final installment of my year-long #Healthy2020 series, The Weekend Gourmet correspondent is sharing some excellent reasons why you should be wearing sunglasses more often. Sunglasses are more than a fashion statement...they're a key component to help ensure your overall eye health! This article may contain affiliate links.

Sunglasses are a surprisingly important accessory that many people either forget about or refuse to wear. This is completely understandable given how large and gaudy sunglasses can look at times. Other people refuse to wear sunglasses because they can often be associated with negative things -- like trying to look cool or seem to be in charge. However, sunglasses are an extremely important consideration when it’s sunny 0utside. Even when the Sun isn’t out in full force, there’s nothing wrong with keeping a pair of sunglasses in your bag in a nice case. Let’s take a look at some key reasons why you should never be without a pair of sunglasses nearby -- and why you should wear them more often.

Sunglasses Are Made to Protect Your Vision

If you want to take better care of your vision, then it’s important to carry sunglasses with you at all times. If you’re exposed to the Sun on a regular basis, it can negatively affect your vision -- especially if the Sun is facing directly at you. It’s impossible to avoid looking at the Sun in some cases. That means the Sun can shine in our eyes via reflections, so you may need to look away at the sky sometimes. Also keep in mind that the Sun changes position in the sky, so we can’t permanently adjust our workspace to look away from the Sun 100% of the time. If you spend considerable time outside, don’t forget to wear sunglasses! They’re designed to protect your vision and are a worthwhile investment for your overall eye health.

Sunglasses Can Protect You Against Headaches, Especially When It’s Really Sunny

Sunglasses can also protect you against headaches -- even migraines -- depending on your individual circumstances. Some people find sunlight unbearable, often causing headaches and pain. This usually occurs when you have to spend a lot of time outside, or when the Sun is out for a long time -- such as during the Summer. Sunglasses can reduce eye strain and make it much easier for you to work unimpeded, as well as possibly reduce fatigue. If you find that working in the Sun or being outside for extended periods affects your head, you should consider wearing sunglasses.

Sunglasses Are Not as Expensive as You Think

The great thing about sunglasses is that they’re surprisingly inexpensive! You can buy sunglasses for a relatively low price, and doing so usually gets you a great pair of sunglasses designed to be used for a long time. However, if you do spend a little more money, you’ll find beautiful frames with strong lenses to protect your eyes -- while also being stylish. Comfortable sunglasses aren’t expensive, but you always have the option of increasing your budget to purchase sunglasses that are a little more luxurious. That said, there’s a certain point where there’s no reason to spend more money on sunglasses. However, you also shouldn’t be afraid of spending a bit more money on high-quality sunglasses that are designed to last you a lifetime.

You’ll Find it Easier to Drive During Sunny Days

Sunglasses are also important when it comes to driving. While most cars have a visor flap you can lower to protect your eyes against the Sun, your eyes won’t always be completely protected by this car accessory. When you drive, the Sun will change position, so there’s a good chance your eyes will get blinded at some point by the Sun’s intensely bright rays. Your eyes are also exposed to the Sun’s UV rays as you're driving. To prevent excessive Sun exposure while driving, simply invest in an inexpensive pair of sunglasses! Even if you only need the sunglasses while driving, it’s a good investment that will protect your eyes. This ensures they're always accessible when you need them. Although this may seem like a niche use for sunglasses, it’s surprisingly helpful to have a pair of sunglasses handy for driving on sunny, cloudless days.

Sunglasses Protect Your Eyes From the Elements

Sunglasses can also protect your eyes from physical damage. For example, if you often get sand in your eyes at the beach, sunglasses will protect you from the Sun and sand. Sunglasses can also provide protection on windy days, when it’s possible for dirt and debris to get blown into your eyes. While traditional prescription glasses serve the same purpose, you should consider also getting a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from physical risks -- especially if you've been exposed to a risk for a while.
